Chapter 22: The United Nations

Chapter 22
The United Nations

Bang. Bang. Bang. The sound of the gavel rang out through Madison Square Garden. “I now officially call the Radical Liberal National Convention to order and open to business. We welcome you all to New York City and thank you to the New York Radical Liberal Party for hosting our event. Now I will waste no more of our time and we will get straight to what everyone has been waiting for. I welcome to the stage, the Governor of the Great State of New York, Mr. Reed Frost!”
The crowd at the Garden erupting into cheers and gave the New York Governor a standing ovation. Frost walked across the stage smiling and waving to an older song of choice, Empire State of Mind by Jay-Z. Frost stood at the podium and took in the spectacle that was before him. Raising both hands into the air, he gave one last wave and then called for quiet from the delegations.
“Thank you Mr. Chairman. And thank you all for that incredible ovation. I guess I was really showing my age with that choice of walkout music. But I have to admit that I am a sucker for the music of my youth,” the Governor joked to a laughing delegation.
“I am very humble to be given the chance to give the keynote address to you all. It is a great honor to be able to address the Radical Liberal convention from my own state and from my hometown. I hope that you all enjoy your stay in our great city.”
“Many of you already reap the enjoyments from the Northeast, but there are some of you here that do not enjoy those benefits as often. As we seat delegates from Radical Liberal power bases such as New York and Massachusetts, we also welcome our friends from the South. We have delegates here representing every state from the South. While the Radical Liberal Party holds power in the Northeast, it is not so easy for the party the further south you go.”
“The further you go the deeper and deeper you get into Peace Party territory. That is, I mean, the People’s Party for Perpetual Peace. It is the same party that has forced its way into political power. It is the same party that needed to fabricate a story of treason in order to remove our elected President and Vice President. It is the same party the instilled their own non-executive into the position of President. It is the same party that has needed to use force and scare tactics in order to install what they claim to be peace, their own twisted version of peace.”
“You know what their version of peace is? Their version is the one where they twist and distort the Constitution of the United States in order to ensure their political power positions. They change the Constitution in order to keep Richard Smith in power as president. They do this under the auspice of claiming that it will be greater stability to our country and thus will lead to ‘greater and ever lasting peace.’ They rig elections in order to take over the Congress and keep it as a puppet for Smith and his regime.”
“It was the Peace Party that created Issue #5572. They felt it was necessary to use US military capabilities to ‘keep the peace’ inside the borders of a US state. They felt it was necessary to strip the State of California of its local law enforcement capabilities. This was all in the name of ‘Peace.’”
“Well our former political party mates, the Progressive Action Party, did not take Issue #5572 lying down. They did not just continue to appease the regime in DC. They decided to fight back. They turned away the troops sent by the Congressional decree. They said they would not be bullied. And when the US pushed right back, what did the Progressives do? They set up the Republic of California. The States of California, Oregon, Washington, and Nevada decided that they had had enough. They seceded from the US and formed their own sovereign state. I know that the official policy coming out of DC is to not use the name of the Republic of California. They choose to not acknowledge their existence. They are treating them as a bunch of little kids that are throwing a temper tantrum. They use labels such as ‘insurgents’ and ‘insurrection’ to refer to the separatist movement out West. They do this to win the propaganda war back home. They need to keep their power base appeased and assured that they are doing what is right. Well what DC doesn’t take into consideration is the determination from the other side. The ROC believes what they are doing is also the right thing and they are willing to fight for their rights and freedom. Not only are they willing to fight, but they are more than capable of fighting and winning. That point is evident in their victory in the Battle of Idaho. Their victory there was so strong that even DC had to accept and acknowledge their defeat there.
“The California situation is not so different from our own. While our two political parties may have separated from each other, we still share the same ideals. Same wants. Same enemies. Their situation is not so different that ours…”
Meanwhile, at the same time as the convention, a plane carrying Canadian diplomats arrives at LaGuardia Airport. The Canadian leisure jet landed on the runway of the airport and began its way to a private hangar. The diplomats on board began to gather up their belongings.
“The Radical Liberal Convention has begun by now. Does everyone know the plan?” said one of the diplomats. Everyone on the plane gave their affirmation. The plane made its way into the hangar. A motorcade of diplomatic vehicles were there awaiting their arrival. “Quickly everyone. There is no time to waste.”
The Canadian diplomats separated into their separate vehicles. Then the motorcades began to leave the airport en route to the United Nations. They split up into two different motorcades and took two different paths. Knowing that US/Canadian relationships were rocky at the moment, the Canadians knew there was a strong possibility of the US trying to stop them on their way to the UN. This was the reason for the split in the motorcade. They wanted to optimize their chances on someone making their way to the UN.
Their fears would be proven true a couple minutes into their drive. One of the Canadian motorcades was stopped by FBI agents. The lead diplomat in the caravan got out of his car to talk to the lead agent. “What is the meaning of this stop?”
“Are you the guy in charge?”
“Yes I am. And I demand to know why you stopped a diplomatic motorcade.”
“We have reasons to suspect that you may be hiding a fugitive of the US.”
“This is an outrageous claim! We are a diplomatic delegation from Canada on our way to the United Nations.”
The FBI agent stepped closer to the Canadian, getting right in his face. “Now you listen here you fucking Canuck. We know you are hiding one these bastards from Cali. We know he is here and we will find him.” The agent lowered his voice, “And when we find him, I hope to god that he is sent to a prison and tried for treason.”
“I surely hope that you are not threatening a diplomat from a sovereign nation. We have diplomatic immunity and are allowed passage to the UN.”
The agent laughed. “Guys round them up. We are taking them all in for questioning.”
“You are making a mistake. We have diplomatic immunity. This is illegal.”
            “Buddy, we are the law.”
Back at the convention. The Radical Liberal Party Chairman listened to the Governor’s speech from off the side of the stage. He was enjoying the speech. Thinking that this was exactly what the party needed at this time. One of his assistants walked up to him and whispered something to him in his ear.
“Oh my god! Are you sure? There is a second one? Once again you sure all your information is correct?” The assistant nodded. “Thank you. The Governor must here of this right away.”
The Chairman walked out onto the stage in the middle of the speech. The audience noticed and began to murmur.
“This country needs a strong Liberal party. It is the party that will bring greater strength to…” The governor stopped in mid-sentence when he noticed the Chairman walking on stage. They whispered to each other at the podium. The Chairman nodded and quickly left the stage.
“Ladies and Gentlemen, I have just received some shocking news. I have been told that a motorcade of Canadian diplomats, on their way to the United Nations, has been pulled over and detained by FBI agents. This is yet another example of the Peace Party in DC trying to skirt international laws. They feel that they are above the laws of the international community. Relations with Canada have already been strained over the California crisis. I feel that this is a huge diplomatic mistake on the part of the Peace Party. But not only do they feel that they are above international laws, but they feel that they are above the law here in their own country. Using the FBI to make arrests such as these is an overstepping of their jurisdiction. This is why I have been hammering on and on about take more responsibility for our homes, our states. We cannot let the Peace Party infringe upon us like this. Our party policy has been to pull back from the federal government and focus more on the state and local level. In order for that policy to be successful, we must be strong in keeping Peace Party federal intervention out. We have been reduced to the minority party, but we must not be quiet, we must be a loud and strong opposition. We must step up and push back. We must take back the future of our states.”
“The Chairman has informed me that there is a second motorcade of Canadian diplomats headed for the UN. I am stepping up and taking control over our situation. I have dispatched a group of State Patrolmen to escort the motorcade to the UN. I have been told that the New York City Mayor has also sent the NYPD to assist. We cannot let this mistake be reflected upon the rest of the country. We will do right by the international community. We will fix it.”
The delegations rose up out of their seats and gave another standing ovation to the Governor. Madison Square Garden was filled by the sound of cheers. The Governor took a step back and took it all in. “Thank you. Thank you. Now if there are no more interruptions I would like to finish my speech.”
United Nations Plaza, New York City, New York. Following their escort of New York State Highway Patrol and NYPD officers, the second motorcade of Canadian diplomats found their way to the United Nations. They pull into their parking places and arrived to a welcoming of fellow Canadians. “I hope you made it here all right,” said the welcoming diplomat.
“Well we felt a lot better after our escort arrived,” said the diplomat getting out of the car.
“It is nice to meet you. I am Walter Shale the Canadian Ambassador to the UN.”
“The pleasure is mine. I’m Ridley Jones. I’m now the California Ambassador to the UN.”
“Well Mr. Ambassador, Welcome to the United Nations.”

Coming Soon: The ROC Assembly convenes for the first time. The ROC makes a desperate move to bolster the military ranks. Canada/US relations worsen due to the diplomatic crisis. Radical Liberals debate over their future. Russia meets with California diplomats.
