I feel that I begun the story out with too much optimism about the number of countries that would've joined the secession movement from the start. 17 states seems to me a bit to large to start with. So I'm going to be dropping the number of secession states.
California will now only be joined at first by their close neighbors. Nevada, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Arizona will form the original secessionists. This will give a greater sense of a big bully beating up on the little man. Future states may or may not join California. The war will take it's course and determine if that happens.
